Mo money mo jailtime: Diddy sentenced to over four years in prison

In a dramatic courtroom finale, hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs was sentenced to 50 months—more than four years—in federal prison on October 3, 2025, for two counts of violating the Mann Act by transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution. The ruling came after Combs was acquitted of more severe charges like sex trafficking and racketeering, which could have meant life behind bars.

U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian emphasized the need for a “substantial sentence” to deter abusers, citing Combs’ history of coercion and violence against ex-girlfriends, including Cassie Ventura. Prosecutors sought at least 11 years, while the defense pushed for just 14 months, arguing Combs had reformed during his year in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center. With credit for time served, Combs could be released in under three years.

Combs apologized in court, calling his actions “sick” and vowing personal change, as his children pleaded for leniency. He was also fined $500,000. His lawyers plan to appeal, amid ongoing civil lawsuits. The once-untouchable icon’s empire now faces further scrutiny.
