There could soon be a change in what type of headlights are put into new vehicles after a recent survey found 65% of people are left blinded by a vehicle’s headlights whilst driving.

According to a survey carried out by the UK’s RAC, almost 15% of motorists in the UK have revealed that they nearly had an accident as a result of bright lights on modern vehicles.

The latest findings which will be reviewed by the UN’s World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations, comes after the company conducted a survey with 2,000 motorists.

In the findings, the RAC discovered that the vast majority of people reported that their sight was drastically affected by modern headlights whilst driving at night.

The report which was published this week, asked the vast majority of those what affects did modern day headlights have on their sight.

In a response to the query many said they had been temporarily blinded for more than five seconds at a time and the after effects had a major effect on their overall visibility even whilst driving against traffic which were not using their full beams.

It is thought that the use of modern LED and xenon lamps have been the major cause of temporary blindness for motorists.
