According to a newly published report by Irish Water’s parent company Ervia, it has been revealed that former managing director John Tierney received €655,000 in salary, severance and pension payments during his time in charge of the state utility.

The report which was published by the company this week revealed that Mr Tierney pocketed a massive sum of €573,000 once he left his position last year.

Mr Tierney who has had his fair share of criticism over recent years was apparently given the sum of €100,000 as a severance payment, whist the remaining €473,000 was allocated to a benefit pension scheme.

The detailed report also showed took home a total of €67,000 in salary payments just before he left his post in April 2016.

Mr Tierney was also given a further €11,000 as pension payments along with €4,000 for company expenses which included fuel allowance and personal expenses.

Ervia have since defended the payments saying Mr Tierney was fully entitled to his earnings as he fulfilled his contractual agreements.
