The Department of Health announced the widespread use of the smallpox vaccine for people at high risk of exposure to monkeypox.
In a statement, Stephen Donnelly said the vaccine would be offered to gay and bisexual men, other men who have sex with men and others at high risk of unprotected exposure.
The National Immunisation Advisory Committee (NIAC) has recommended giving two doses of the smallpox vaccine, 28 days apart, to as many high-risk people as soon as possible.
