There could be further bad news for students and parents as it is expected that secondary schools nationwide are expected to be closed this coming Monday due to planned industrial action.
The news of the proposed strike action was announced by the Education Richard Bruton after negations broke down with the teachers union (ASTI) last night.
Mr Bruton has also warned that students and parents should prepare for more if not indefinite closures as the dispute is far from being resolved.
Meanwhile the ASTI have confirmed they have directed members to cease providing supervision and substitution duties from Monday, November 7th.
The strike action comes after the mid term break were over 250,000 students were expected to return to school on Monday.
