More industrial action ahead as secondary school teachers vote overwhelmingly in favour of strike action

The country will see yet more strike action in the coming weeks ahead as secondary school teachers have agreed to work stoppages after ASTI members voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action.

The news of the union’s decision comes ahead of a protest gathering outside Government buildings this evening, according to the union’s president Ed Byrne over 80% of teachers members voted in favour of a strike.

It is now understood the union will meet tomorrow to discuss the implications of the vote and when to undertake the strike action.

Speaking about the decision ASTI Union President Byrne said the vote clearly shows the depth of feeling among teachers over pay and conditions.
