More jobs on the way as contact lens manufacturer Bausch + Lomb confirm expansion at Waterford Site

There was more good news today for Jobseekers as contact lens manufacturer Bausch + Lomb has promised to create 125 jobs with a €75m investment in Waterford.

The company made the announcement as they plan to expand their current facility which will reportedly create up to 150 construction jobs. The creation of jobs by the company is a welcome turn of events after they told staff at the factory that would be 200 redundancies, a 20% cut in pay and big roster changes last summer.

The change in events come after almost a year of tough negotiations with company owners Valiant who ensued that a compromise was successfully reached, the owner are understood to have promised that they would heavily invest in the factory.  The company is known to make contact lenses and other products at the site since the last 35 years.

Meanwhile the Minister for Jobs Richard Bruton has welcomed the new investment saying: “Bausch + Lomb is to invest €75m in extra manufacturing capacity, supported by the department and IDA Ireland”.

It is thought that by the end of next year 2016, 125 jobs will be added to its workforce of almost 1,000.
