The Cryptocurrency trading platform, Coinbase has confirmed it blocked over 25,000 wallet addresses related to Russian accounts.
According to Bloomberg, the Coinbase chief executive said;
“Today, Coinbase blocks over 25,000 addresses related to Russian individuals or entities we believe to be engaging in illicit activity, many of which we have identified through our own proactive investigations,”. “We shared them with the government to further support sanctions enforcement.”
This effectively brings to an end the dream that many crypto pioneers had of a financial world detached from Big Government control.
It’s unfortunate that Coinbase has unilaterally taken this decision to upend the potential for crypto currency around the world.
