A British mother whose 19-yr-old daughter was convicted of “public mischief” by court in Cyprus after she lied about being gang raped has called for a boycott of the island.
The 19-yr-old, from Derbyshire, claimed that she was gang raped by 12 Israeli tourists in the resort of Ayia Napa last July, however, it was discovered after a police investigation it was determined that the woman had lied about the rape claims.
The girl has since been spared a prison sentence over the false accusation.
Now the girl’s mother has spoken out claiming her daughter has suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, sleeps 20 hours a day and suffers hallucinations when she hears foreign male voices the UK Daily Mail reported.
The 19-yr-old woman faces up to one year in prison, but her mother has claimed that her health is in serious decline and she must return to the UK before it is too late to prevent lifelong damage. As part of this plea she has called on tourists to boycott the Mediterranean island.
The mother of the convicted nineteen-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been supported in her calls by a social media campaign dubbed ‘#BoycottCyprus’ and an online petition to drop all charges against her daughter.
