TD joined efforts to repatriate father and son from Co Laois who died in the moped tragedy at the Turkish Sun resort, reports The Mirror.

Laois-Offaly TD Brian Stanley, who knows the family devastated by Monday’s tragedy, is contacting officials to release the remains of Eoin Fitzpatrick, 36, and his son Dylan, 10, to the family.

Sinn Féin TD, who lives on the same property in Portlaoise as Mr Fitzpatrick and Dylan’s mother Claire Dowling, told The Star/Mirror last night that he had spoken to Turkish officials to try to speed up the release of the victims.

Deputy Stanley said: “The priority is to get the remains released to the family. That has not happened yet, but I am hopeful that there will be a development as early as tomorrow. The post mortems have not taken place yet, but once that happens there should be movement. When the remains are released we can move on to getting them back home, but we have to get them released first,” reports The Mirror.

Deputy Stanley also confirmed he had been in contact with Dylan’s mother, Ms Dowling, who flew to Turkey on Tuesday morning after learning of an accident on Monday in the Alanya resort that killed her child and her ex-partner.

They died after being hit by a passenger bus near a pedestrian crossing in a popular resort.

The accident happened less than a day before the family was due to return to Ireland after their holiday.

Dylan’s brother Cian, 14, was also on holiday but was with Eoin’s partner and her children at the time of the accident and did not witness it.

Dylan’s devastated mother Claire Dowling said: “He loves me and he loves his daddy too and I am so happy that they’re okay together somewhere. He was the kindest, kindest person but he could cut you in two as well. He was such a character and anyone who met him would have said the same. He is 10 years of age and he still holds my hand and tells me he loves me, no matter where we are. He is so, so kind,” reports The Mirror.

She added: “He loves drawing and he loves swimming and he loves golf – he loves all the things that normal 10 year old kids don’t like. He wasn’t like the rest of them,” reports The Mirror.
