Temperature have dropped -4c tonight leaving light snowfall on high lying land but even more severe is the black ice on mostly B roads.
Motorists are being warned later this morning to expect major delays as treacherous road conditions are a result of temperatures plunging to below freezing.
Patches of black ice have formed across the country, creating dangerous conditions for driving and walking.
Met Eireann have issued a Yellow Warning due to deep cold and possible snow showers in places.
The message is clear, motorists need to give themselves plenty of time and slow down.
