Met Eireann has said that conditions are quite dangerous tonight as fog and ice are due to be widespread as temperatures fall to -1c.
As more and more forecasters claim the so-called “beast from the east” is set to hit Ireland and Britain this week, the national forecaster has advised motorists to take extra care on the roads overnight and in the morning.
Temperatures will soon drop with expected temperatures of a bitterly cold -5c in areas and -4c nationally.
It’s understood that there’s at least now 4 qualified meteorologists predicting up to 15 inches of snow will fall over the country before Thursday evening.
The last time Ireland received such a snowfall, it was in December 2010 where the entire country effectively came to a complete standstill with council workers running out on salt and grit on January 8th 2011.
