Motorists will face fines and penalty points for driving with defective tyres from today onwards

New regulations imposing fines and penalty points for driving with worn or otherwise defective tyres kicks in from today.

If you get caught, a fine of €80 and penalty points will apply.

Minister for Transport Paschal Donohoe fast-tracked the new revenue-making measure while at the same time choosing not to intervene in the bitter Luas dispute as this would mean exercising some responsibility on behalf of commuters.
