Taoiseach Simon Harris extended his congratulations to Donald Trump upon his inauguration as the 47th President of the United States.
Trump was sworn into office inside the Capitol in Washington, D.C., this afternoon.

In his statement, Harris expressed his wishes for Trump’s success during his term.
“Today marks a significant moment for President Trump and for the United States. As democracy transitions smoothly from one leader to another, I convey my best wishes to him and to the American people.”, reports RTE.
Harris also highlighted the Irish Government’s anticipation of working with Trump’s administration, emphasizing the continuation and strengthening of the longstanding, vibrant relationship between Ireland and the U.S.
“This cooperation will build upon our deep historical ties, the support for peace in Ireland from the United States, and our expanding economic partnership.”
