There have been calls in the United States for an investigation after former New York City mayor and Presidential Candidate Rudi Giuliani claimed that the Obama administration donated $3.7 million to the Wuhan Institute of Virology lab in 2014.

The alleged donation came at a time when the Obama White House had banned the funding of any lab that was involved in virus experimentation.

Speaking to Fox News, Giuliani said:

“Back in 2014, the Obama administration prohibited the U.S. from giving money to any laboratory, including in the U.S., that was fooling around with these viruses. Prohibited. Despite that, Dr. Fauci gave $3.7 million to the Wuhan laboratory. And then even after the State Department issued reports about how unsafe that laboratory was, and how suspicious they were in the way they were developing a virus that could be transmitted to humans, we never pulled that money.”

Dr. Anthony Fauci is an American is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and has acted as an advisor to several US administrations although there have reports of tensions between him and President Trump.

In recent weeks US intelligence services have said they are increasingly confident that the Covid-19 virus originated in the Wuhan Institute of Virology lab.
