A murder inquiry has been launched following the death of Ian Walsh at his residence in Co Tipperary earlier this week, reports Breaking News.

The 49-yr-old was discovered by family members at his home in Ravenswood on the Cregg Road in Carrick-on-Suir around 2am on Monday.

Mr Walsh, known for his passion for trains, was found unresponsive and had sustained multiple visible injuries. Emergency services pronounced him dead shortly after arriving, reports Breaking News.

A post-mortem was carried out on Wednesday, and based on the findings from the state pathologist, gardaí in Clonmel have now confirmed they are treating the case as a murder investigation.

Gardaí have chosen not to disclose the specific cause of death at this time due to operational considerations, reports Breaking News.

Mr Walsh worked as a rail signal man at Kent train station in Cork. In a statement, Iarnród Éireann paid tribute to him.

“All of us in Iarnród Éireann are shocked and saddened at Ian’s passing. Ian was a well-known and popular colleague across the company, both in his working life in roles from catering to signalling, and for his passion for railway and transport tourism and heritage,” it said, reports Breaking News.

Gardaí are continuing to seek information and are appealing to any potential witnesses to come forward.

They are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have noticed suspicious activity or who has dashcam footage from the Cregg Road area between 8pm last Friday — the last time Mr Walsh was seen alive — and 3.30am on Monday when gardaí arrived at the scene, reports Breaking News.

Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact Clonmel Garda Station on (052) 617 7640, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
