The country is currently experiencing fantastic weather in recent days and everyone is making the most of it, however if your a new parent and if you protect your bundle of joy from the sun with a blanket you are being advised not to do so anymore as it could seriously be fatal for your little one.

Scientists and medical experts are advising parents not to cover their prams with blankets in the warm weather as temperatures inside the pram can cause your baby to suffer from severe heatstroke or even sudden infant death syndrome.

According to Torleiv Ole Rognum, a leading forensic scientist and specialist in child deaths, temperature inside a pram covered with a light blanket can reach a staggering 37°C in just under 20 minutes.

Mr Torleiv who recently told Tv2: “The children must have sufficient access to fresh air… children can become very hot and not be able breathe. It gets extremely hot down in the pram, something like a thermos.”

“There is also bad circulation of the air and it is hard to see the baby with a cover over the pram.” The forensic scientist also explained the effects such conditions could have on you baby, saying: “If a child gets too hot then the child may think that it is back in the womb, which is why breathing may stop.”

“We must dare to speak out… in an orderly way when we think someone is doing something completely wrong.”
