National Children’s Hospital not expected to open until 2024 as costs continue to grow




The new National Children’s Hospital is not expected to open until 2024 as costs continue to grow in wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking about the hospital’s development before an Oireachtas Committee, Chief executive of the National Paediatric Hospital Development Board David Gunning said that the project is about ten months behind schedule.

Gunning also told the committee that the hospital is approximately 20% completed and there has been delays due to the halting of construction work during lockdowns.

Although no exact figure has been given, it has been previously reported that costs could grow by a further €300m a figure which has been quoted by 700 contractor.
