According to figures compiled by Repak Ireland it is believed that on average Irish householders will generate approximately 74,000 tonnes of packaging waste this Christmas period.
The staggering figures which were compiled by boffins at the company come after a recent survey found that Irish people will receive nearly 12 million Christmas gifts this year.
Speaking about the huge amount of waste a Repak spokesperson said the extravagant waste from gift giving will cause a significant impact on the Irish environment and they are urging the general public to recycle as much as possible in order to cut down on Ireland’s waste emissions.
