Neighbours of 73-yr-old Tom Niland offer big reward to find thugs who left him fighting for his life

Another appeal has been made for help from the public in the investigation into a horrific assault on an elderly man in County Sligo.

According to RTE, the investigation is ongoing after the condition of 73-yr-old Tom Niland deteriorated, leaving him on life support.

The attack, which took place on January 18th, involved three raiders who knocked on Mr. Niland’s door.  He had been watching television but got up to answer the door.  The three thugs pushed their way in before assaulting him on the head and upper body and leaving with some cash.

Mr. Niland was able to alert passersby and was taken to Sligo University Hospital.  Sadly, his condition then deteriorated and his medical team had to be put him on life support.

Gardai are now hoping that anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage might come forward and help to catch the ruffians who carried out this horrific attack.

Meanwhile, neighbours of the much liked “gentle giant” are offering what’s described locally as a substantial reward for information leading to the three thugs being caught who carried out the heinous crime.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Confidential Line on 1800-66-61-11.
