New €1.50 Date Rape detector kit to be sold in pub and clubs nationwide receives support from Dublin Rape Crisis Centre

The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre has given its support to new scheme that would see a new date rape detector kit being sold in pubs and clubs across the country.

The centre say the pack which would cost approximately €1.50 would help prevent future attacks on vulnerable women, the new pack which wd created in Derry consists of six pieces of paper that change colour if put into a drink that has been spiked.

The new kit was welcomed Chief executive of the Rape Crisis Centre Noeline Blackwell, who also revealed harrowing details from women who have been spiked on a night out.
Ms Blackwell told Newstalk: “I don’t know what happened I was having a normal drink and then I lost consciousness and I lost the capacity to deal with myself properly.”

Blackwell further explained that while the Test Your Drink kit would help spot if your drink has been spiked, women must remeber prevention is key: “What we would say in the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre is that gardaí would always advise on crime prevention measures … the normal garda response tends to be, ‘If you’ve left your drink unattended – dump it.”
