There have been a number of reported cases of children poisoning themselves after ingesting part or whole laundry capsules.
From January 1, all such products made in the EU will have to be coated with an outer bittering layer that should make a child spit it out within a few seconds of tasting it.
The packaging will also have to be more difficult to open and manipulate by children, and carry larger warning signs to keep the product out of children’s reach.
