Irish Government has abandoned aims to have “full employment” by 2018.

The Government has pushed back this ambitious plan to 2020, stating it was too difficult to get jobs for everyone within three years.

The rate of unemployment in Ireland is now at 8.9%, compared to a high 15% at the beginning of 2012.

Enda Kenny considers 6% unemployment to be full employment, but he says getting to this level by 2018 is unrealistic.

However the issue is said to be very close to his heart despite the difficulties the Government have faced in the last few years.

“The difficulties that we faced this year are a continuation of the great difficulties for the last number of years, but now it is moving on very strongly”

Do you think the Government can achieve this percentage of unemployment by 2020?
