New figures show that on average at least eight vehicles are being seized a day from unaccompanied learner drivers




New figures have shown that on  average at least eight vehicles belonging to unaccompanied learner drivers are being seized a day.

According to RTÉ News, a total of 337 vehicles have been seized by Gardaí since December 22nd 2018 and February 10th 2019.

The seizures come following the introduction of strict new laws that give Gardai the power to seize vehicles of a learner driver is driving a vehicle unaccompanied.

Over the past few weeks Gardaí have highlighted the new Clancy Amendment act by warning drivers that they would be punished if they are caught driving unaccompanied.

They also say vehicle owners will also be punished if they allow those who are on learner permits drive their vehicle unaccompanied.

Under the new laws vehicle owners could face hefty fines or a prison sentence.
