The number asylum seekers living in emergency accommodation has significantly increased in recent months it has been revealed.
According to RTÉ News, new figures published by the Department of Justice show that there is a total of 381 people living in emergency accommodation due to overcrowding at direct provision centre’s.
The latest figures also show that there are currently 6,308 asylum seekers living across 39 provision centre’s across the country.
However figures state that there is only a total of 6,192 beds available under the system.
Although the figures are above official capacity, the government say plans are set to reduce the overcrowding at direct provision centre’s as futher accommodation and ancillary services will be provided.
