There was some good news announced this afternoon as it has been revealed that 10,000 children will receive Medical Cards as part of a new programme set up by the incoming Government.
The new programme will see purposely assembled Clinical Advisory Group that will examine the guidelines for awarding medical cards for children undergoing treatment for cancer. There will also be additional funding set aside for homecare packages and home help every year.
Patients will also see the cost of medicines being “significantly” reduced after much needed changes to the Drugs Payment scheme will be implemented. Prescription charges for medical card holders will be abolished within the next three years.
Meanwhile the incoming government have revealed that new hospices will be opened in Wicklow, Waterford, Mayo and Kerry, and in the Midlands and North East. There will also be new legislation introduced which will see reforms regarding delicate issues such as surrogacy and human re-production.
