The HSE have criticized Áras Attracta in Swinford Co. Mayo after reports were published today that show there are still a substantial amount of negative findings and concerns for the care home.
Follow up unannounced inspections were carried out by HIQUA (Health Information and Quality Authority) in the care home for the intellectually disabled in January. Only a month after RTEs Prime Time programme revealed findings on the Swinford Centre where patients were kicked and slapped, force fed, yelled at and physically restrained.
HIQUA reported the premises to be uncleanly, they reported that the centres medication practices were unsafe, the staff did not interact properly or appropriately with patients when they challenged them, medication was not given as prescribed and drugs were not being secured safely.
HIQUA stated that “significant improvements are needed”.
