The Minister for Housing has announced the introduction of new legislation that will prevent landlords from putting houses up for short-term renting through sites like Airbnb, especially in areas where demand for housing is high.
The measure is intended to tackle the dire shortage of properties available for long-term letting.
The proposals will allow homeowners to rent their primary residence on a short-term basis for a maximum of 90 days a year and for up to 14 days at a time.
Those who own two or more properties will now face restrictions, as they will have to obtain permission for the property to be used for short-term letting or tourism.
