New research reveals which Irish town has the highest cancer rates in Ireland




According to new research people living in Cobh, Co Cork, are at a much higher risk of getting common cancers than anywhere else in the country.

The latest study which will come as worrying news for residents was conducted by the National Cancer Registry of Ireland (NCRI). The research found that men are 71% more likely to get prostrate cancer than the rest of the country, whilst women are more likely to develop breast cancer at 38% above the national average.

Meanwhile further statistics showed for colorectal cancer is 42% higher, blood cancers are 42% higher, and lung cancer is 19% above the national average.

Doctors say the town’s industrial past could be the main cause of the rise in people being fatal diagnosed with the fatal disease.
