Newly elected Labour party TD Ivana Bacik has apologised for attending Katherine Zappone’s party at the Merrion Hotel to celebrate her massive new envoy job – which she was forced to turn down.
According to the Irish Independent, Bacik released the below statement and said she regretted attending the event, which was also saw Tánaiste Leo Varadkar in attendance, and which led the government to enact new rules on the hotel industry.
“I confirmed last week that I was briefly in attendance for approx. 15/20 minutes at an outdoor event organised by Katherine Zappone on 21st July,” Ms Bacik said.
“I understood the event was within the regulations but regret my brief attendance in the circumstances, and apologise for being there. Alan Kelly has accepted my apology,” the Independent reports.
