According to recent report published by the Housing Agency the number of houses built in the past increased by nearly 20%.
However the detailed report which outlines how there were 15,000 new builds last year, also claims that a further 81,000 new homes are needed by 2020 in order to meet demand.
The report also highlights that more new builds are need given that there are almost 92,000 people on housing list, whilst there are 7,000 people currently homeless in Ireland.
