The man who carried out last night’s deadly attack in Nice has been identified as 31-year-old man Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, a Tunisia-born French citizen.
He comandeered a truck and drove along Nice’s Promenade des Anglais at high speed, mowing down people who were out celebrating Bastille Day. He killed 84 and left 18 more fighting for their lives in hospital. He was shot dead by police, bringing his rampage to a bloody end. The truck was found to contain ammunition, weapons, and bombs.
It is understood that Bouhlel was known to French authorities due to a past record of petty crime, but was never on any terrorism watch list. He reportedly worked as a delivery driver.
His home was searched this morning, and a number of relatives are being questioned by security forces,
