No pre-Christmas General Election as Housing Minister survives no confidence motion by just 3 votes

There will be no General Election before Christmas as the Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy just barely survived a motion of no confidence.

In what surely had been a nervous moment for the Government on Tuesday evening, the housing minister just about hung on to his position by 3 votes.

Minister Murphy who has come under increased pressure just survived as the Dáil voted 56 to 53 against the motion.

The motion which was submitted by Social Democrats TD, called for the removal of Mr Murphy from his position as the homeless crisis continues to grow.
