No prosecution over death of woman who was hit by garda car in Donegal

The family of a young lady who died in County Donegal after being struck by a garda car says they will contest the decision to not bring charges against any officers involved in her demise, reports RTE.

On May 21, 2023, Rebecca Browne, 21, of Galliagh, Derry, was murdered at Ludden, close to Buncrana.

She was struck down in the early hours after spending the night out in Buncrana with a relative.

A referral to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) had been made about the collision, reports RTE.

According to the family’s legal team, GSOC has notified them that the Director of Public Prosecutions has determined not to press charges.

According to Madden and Finucane Solicitors’ Conor Moylan, Ms. Browne’s family was “devastated by the decision” and felt let down by the Irish State, reports RTE.

“Full written reasons, together with all documents, consultation notes, expert opinions and reports and memoranda which have gone into this decision” is what Mr. Moylan claimed to have asked for.

“It’s our intention to challenge this decision by way of judicial review,” he said, reports RTE.
