No resolution in ongoing pay dispute as the ASTI reject latest amendments to public service pay agreement

The Association of Secondary Teachers (ASTI) have confirmed today that it is strongly recommending that its 18,000 members should reject the new public service pay agreement.

The latest announcement which will come as a blow to the Department of Education comes after the association once again outlined issues about the proposed deal.

It is understood the recommendation is being put forward as the latest deal failed to address the problem of lower pay scales for those recruited since 2012.

The pay deal was rejected after voted No by 63 votes to 59.

An ASTI spokesperson has said they are open to further negotiations and they are hopeful all terms set out in previous discussions can be met.
