Norway police treat shooting outside gay nightclub as act of Islamic extremism

Norwegian police have arrested a man suspected of “Islamist terrorism” after two people were killed and 21 wounded by gunfire near a gay bar in Oslo on Saturday, prompting the city’s Pride parade to be cancelled.

But although the official march was cancelled, thousands of people spontaneously gathered to march through Norway’s capital.

The shooting took place near the London Pub gay club, the Mr Nilsen jazz club and a restaurant.

The suspect, already known to the security services, was quickly arrested after the shooting began around 1 a.m. in central Oslo.

Police said the suspect was a 42-year-old Iranian-Norwegian.
