“Not good enough” – Government throw €2 million at flood relocation scheme

The Government have thrown €2 million at a voluntary relocation scheme for people whose homes were flooded during the horrific flooding from December 2015 and mid-January 2016 and who are at risk of flooding again in the future.

Minister for State at the Office of Public Works, Sean Canney said he hopes that more money can be allocated in the future for such disasters but nothing is definite.

The average relocation grant to be paid out will be in the region of €200,000 and will only be paid where alternative flood protection is not freely available.

People affected in the regions are claiming that €2 million is simply not good enough to cover the disaster that they went through and could conceivably go through again next winter.
