The former Minister for the Environment and Labour party TD Alan Kelly will no longer be advocating for water charges from now on as he has been given a new position within the party.

Mr Kelly a keen supporter of the much hated charges will instead find himself being the new spokesman on both health and Jobs Enterprise and innovation.

Mr Kelly’s new duties comes after new party leader Brendan Howlin announced a complete reshuffle within the party following a dismal election campaign.

The topic of water charges and Irish Water will now be overseen by former education minister Jan O’Sullivan, who will now also reportedly shadow the current minister for housing Simon Coveney.

In a reshuffle that will see a number of Ministers carry out multiple roles, Ms O’Sullivan will also be given the task of being spokesperson for ‘Children and Youth Affairs’
