In 2011 a mental health nurse was struck off the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in Scotland for grabbing an 88 year old female patient pushing her head against a wall, retraining her arms across her chest and causing the elderly patient to fall to the ground. She was also found to have dispensed medication incorrectly.
The nurse also failed to notify her employer about a charge of assault.
This week, according to the Daily Record, the nurse Vicki Anne Thom who retrained as a hairdresser has now been cleared by the NMC to return to work with vulnerable patients
The NMC panel is allowing Thom back to work where she will be supervised.
The NMC decision read: “In reaching its decision, the panel was mindful of its statutory duty to protect the public as well as maintain public confidence in the reputation of the professions, which includes the declaring and upholding of proper professional standards.”
