Up to 35,000 thousand nurses and midwives are engaged in strike action across the country today, in a bitter row over pay and working conditions.
There will be five more 24-hour long stoppages over the coming weeks if their demands for better conditions are not met.
The Government has so far ruled out any pay increase, insisting that current pay levels are ‘competitive.’
The row continues.
