Nurses on industrial action footing due to ongoing and persistent overcrowding

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) will soon be balloting its members on industrial action due to the escalating overcrowding crisis nationwide.

According to sources, the safety of both nurses and patients is put in jeopardy on a daily basis due to the constant overcrowding of emergency departments.

The INMO has confirmed that the result of the ballot may lead to a total strike in and around Christmas.

Speaking recently, General Secretary Liam Doran has said that: “We’re balloting in protest at the continuing overcrowding, the failure to address it, the excessive workloads facing our members.

“This is a long time coming, it’s very regrettable, but we are determined to protect our members and ensure they can practice safely and I think the patients will fully support us.

“The patients are being compromised more than anyone else because of the persistent overcrowding that’s happening.”
