The Oberstown detention centre in Dublin has been badly damaged by a fire allegedly started by rioting immates.
Six units of the Dublin Fire Brigade were at the scene yesterday, after a blaze razed parts of the complex.
It is understood that a group of eight youths climbed up to the roof after wrestling a set of keys from a member of staff, who was injured in the process. A fire started shortly afterwards.
Staff at Oberstown were engaged in an 8-hour long work stoppage over conditions at their workplace when the riot started.
