
A man in his 30s is in critical condition in hospital after a serious assault in Cork.
Gardaí in Mayfield on the northside of Cork city have opened an investigation following the incident in the Liffey Park area in the early hours of this morning, reports The Mirror.
Shortly after 3am, gardaí on patrol discovered a man in his late 30s with serious injuries at the scene.
The injured man was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, reports The Mirror.
The area has been preserved to allow for a full forensic and technical examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
Gardaí have said inquiries are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the assault.
They have also appealed for witnesses, particularly anyone with footage from the area in the early hours of the morning, to come forward, reports The Mirror.
A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana told the Irish Mirror: “Anyone who was in the Liffey Park area during the early hours of Tuesday, 5th May 2026 and who may have camera footage—including dash-cam footage—is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí. Anyone with information is asked to contact Mayfield Garda Station on (021) 455 8510, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station,” reports The Mirror.
