Off Duty Garda praised after he single handedly arrests two men involved in a road traffic incident that left a man in serious condition in hospital




An off duty Garda has been praised for his efforts after he single handedly arrested two men after they tried to flee the scene of a road traffic collision in Co. Clare last night.

GardaĆ­ say the incident involving two cars and a pedestrian happened occurred at approximately 10pm last night on Gort Road at Sheils roundabout in Ennis.

It is understood a male pedestrian involved in the incident was seriously injured, and was quickly taken to University Hospital Limerick where his injuries are believed to be life threatening.

GardaĆ­ say the two men in one of the cars, believed to be aged 25 and 19, tried to escape on foot, but were caught and subsequently arrested by an off-duty Garda who followed them to a location not far from the scene.

They are currently being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Ennis Garda Station.

Meanwhile two women in their 60s, who were traveling in the other car, were also taken to University Hospital Limerick, but their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
