O’Gorman worried the next coalition govt may not need a smaller party

Roderic O’Gorman, the head of the Green Party, has stated that he would be worried if a smaller party was not included in the next administration, reports Breaking News.

Since the most recent general election in 2020, Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil, and the Greens have been part of a coalition government.

After the next election, which is generally anticipated to occur on Friday, November 29th, the former two might be able to form a government on their own, according to a recent pre-election survey, reports Breaking News.

According to the most recent Business Post Red C Poll, Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael are headed towards an outright majority without the need for a third party.

Fianna Fáil is only one point behind Fine Gael at 22%, having risen three points since the last survey.

Meanwhile, support for Sinn Féin was estimated at 17%, Independents at 15%, Social Democrats at 5%, Labour at 4%, and Greens, Aontu, and People Before Profit-Solidarity at 3%.

Mr. O’Gorman stated that he is concerned about the party support estimates.

Providing the Green Party with the most votes is crucial if you want a stable administration that implements progressive ideas, reports Breaking News.

Speaking on RTE Radio’s This Week programme, he said: “I think this has been a good government. It’s provided stability and really good policies over the last four and a half years but I think it’s been a good government because of the Green Party’s participation within it. I don’t think we’d be seeing a 7 per cent reduction in carbon emissions if the Green Party hadn’t been part of this government. I honestly don’t think we’d have seen a 50 per cent cut in childcare fees if the Green Party had not been in government and I hadn’t been in the Department of Children. I don’t think the cuts in public transport fees and the rollout of new bus services across the country would have happened without the Green Party in government,” reports Breaking News.
