Oh thank you so much King Eamon! Transport Minister tells public the date when the government will give us a few quid for our energy bills

Minister Eamon Ryan has confirmed the date on which the first energy credit of €200 will be paid to households.

He said every Irish household would get a €200 discount on their energy bill in just two and a half weeks, starting the week of November 1, reports Mirror.

It had previously been suggested that the payment could be delayed until December.

The €600 energy credits, to be paid in three installments of €200 over the winter, were announced in the 2023 budget to help mitigate the impact of the cost of living crisis.

The second installment is paid in January and the last energy credit is paid in March. The energy credit program will cost the state a total of 1,200 million euros.

Minister Ryan told Newstalk this morning: ‘The first [payment] will be the 1st of November, first week of November, and then one early in the new year – January – and then one further one in March.”

The emergency aid for the cost of electricity is part of the aid scheme to combat the cost of living and applies to all holders of a household electricity account.

About 2.25 million account holders benefit from the program and amounts due are automatically deducted from invoices.

Like the previous credit of €200 paid between April and June, this one will apply automatically. Households do not have to apply. You do not have to contact your electricity supplier.

Speaking to Newstalk, the minister also warned that an “energy war”, with rising gas prices and shortages, could drag on for years.
