Fleeing terror suspect Daniel Khalife has been arrested after an undercover officer dragged him from a steering wheel, British police said, reports RTE.

The Metropolitan Police’s counter-terrorism chief, Commander Dominic Murphy, told reporters that the 21-year-old ex-soldier, who fled from HMP Wandsworth four days ago, was arrested on suspicion of being on unlawful release and an escaped prisoner.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, currently in India for the G20 summit, told British media he was “very pleased with the news”.

“My thanks to the police officers for their fantastic work over the past couple of days,” he added, reports RTE.

The 21-year-old ex-soldier escaped from Wandsworth prison in south London on Wednesday morning, apparently by clinging to the back of a van.

His disappearance sparked a massive manhunt that led to additional security checks at ports and airports amid fears he might try to flee the country, reports RTE.

But after confirmed sightings in south-west London, he was finally arrested this morning in the borough of Chiswick.

He recently appeared in court in London on January 28 and was remanded in custody for two incidents at the Royal Air Force base in Stafford in central England, near the barracks where he lived.

Khalife was accused in August 2021 of having “attempting to elicit information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism,” reports RTE.

He was also charged with bomb scam for planting a suspicious device at the RAF base on January 2 this year.

His trial at Woolwich Crown Court, Belmarsh Prison, was due to begin on November 13.
