One step closer to totalitarianism: Paul Murphy queries Taoiseach about Gardai-led spying operation on water protestors

Always inching closer to a quasi-totalitarian state, the sinister cloak and dagger overtones of “Operation Misen” clouded the Taoiseach’s intervention in the Dáil yesterday.

According to Anti-Austerity TD Paul Murphy, undercover Garda assets are conducting an intelligence-gathering action -Operation Misen- on water charge protestors.

Mr. Murphy raised the matter in the Dáil yesterday, and Enda Kenny swiftly denied knowledge or awareness of such operation.

The TD pressed on, stating that he was concerned about recent media reports which suggest that he himself may currently be targeted under such operation.

He said “If a TD, for example, is being spied upon by a secret group inside the Gardaí – that is a very, very serious matter.”

“If people are being spied upon because they are anti-water charges protesters, because they are exercising their democratic and constitutional right to assemble and to protest – that is a serious matter.”
