After failing to secure financing for a full-time director of counselling, a pastoral centre in County Donegal has announced that it will no longer provide counselling services, reports Breaking News.
Since it is the county’s sole source of child and adolescent counselling, Raphoe Diocesan Pastoral Services claimed that its closure would leave “a dangerous void” for the provision of mental health services to young people.
It is known that the institution assisted those impacted by the October 2022 Creeslough disaster, which resulted in the deaths of ten locals in an explosion at a gas station, reports Breaking News.
The board of directors of the centre said in a statement on Monday that it had assurance that the HSE and Tusla would not be providing money for any positions at the non-profit institution.
“The rapid growth of the service in response to surging demand for counselling has resulted in an acute necessity for the funding of a full-time director of counselling and a coordinator,” it said, reports Breaking News.
