Met Eireann has issued an urgent nationwide Status Yellow warning for low temperatures as thermometers plunge below -5c.
Motorist are advised to be extremely careful on the roads, especially overnight and early morning.
The warning is in effect since 5pm and will remain in place until 11am tomorrow.
Ireland is currently gripped by a cold spell, which is expected to last until the end of the week, when milder but more unsettled weather will take over.
